Discus come from the Amazon River basin.  Water temperatures decrease to 22℃ in the rainy season from December to May and climb to 27℃ in the dry season from June to November. Best water parameters are GH 6, KH 5 and PH 7.5.  But because of the great amount of acidic material resulting from the leaf litter and deadwood in the water, the PH decreases to from 7.5 to 5.0 in the dry season.  But most aquariums do not naturally become so acidic without human intervention.  The ideal water conditions for breeding discus are from 6.0-7.5 for PH.
